The Semi-Regular 'Holy Cow, Way Too Many Things Got Announced Yesterday' News Roundup
This is a picture I took of Pearl Jam playing Wrigley Field in 2016. I hope to be closer this year.

I'm not gonna lie to you, a whole lot of important announcements and songs and what not happened yesterday and it's too much to cover with individual posts, so here's a catch-all to get you up to speed on everything you missed yesterday:

Neil Young and Crazy Horse have announced their 2024 "Love Earth Tour" that will run across the US and Toronto during April and May. Not only do fans get a tour, but it's in support of a new album coming in April called "FU##IN' UP". Whether it's actually called "FU##IN' UP" or if it's "FUCKIN' UP" and every news source but me is too afraid to report the real news is unclear.

And if you're asking yourself if Neil Young is still Neil Young, the answer is 'yes'. The album first gets released exclusively on vinyl for Record Store Day on April 20. The rest of you non-analog people can enjoy it on 4/26. Tour dates can be found here.

Going straight from Neil Young to a band that ends most of their live sets with a Neil Young cover, we get the same new tour/new album announcement today from Pearl Jam, with the added sweetener of getting a brand spankin' new song!

The song is 'Dark Matter' (above). The album is also called Dark Matter and will beat Mr. Young to market by 1 day (April 19). Tour dates can be found here. If the new album is anything like the first single, this is going to be a Pearl Jam release worth your immediate attention. While the heaviness of 'Dark Matter' calls back to PJ's first handful of albums, that doesn't necessarily mean 'angry'. It's an interesting combo from a band whose last few albums have generally tread the same ground.

Following up her excellent romantic-and-swampy first single off the upcoming Tiger's Blood (March 22), Waxahatchee is back and trading gators and sunsets for dive bars and King Charles Cavaliers. Her new single 'Bored' perfectly captures the energy and feel of a live Waxahatchee performance, with a 'yee-haw, hell yes' attitude that will leave everyone listening anything but bored.

Let's hear it straight from the source:

Of the song Crutchfield says, “I feel like my comfort zone when writing songs lies somewhere on the emotional spectrum of sadness and heartache. Writing from a place of happiness scares me. Too earnest. Anger scares me even more,” Crutchfield explains. “I wrote ‘Bored’ about one of those situations where anger was called for and was the only authentic place from which to write about what I was experiencing. It was a challenge for me and ‘Bored’ is the end result.

Tour dates and tickets for Waxahatchee's upcoming tour can be found here.
