IDLES' New Single 'Grace' Will Kick Your Ass on the Dancefloor
British rock band IDLES dropped a bomb on the music world last week when they announced not just a world tour, but a new album as well. And not just a new album announcement, but a new single to boot! And not just any single, but a collaboration with LCD Soundsystem! Longtime fans of IDLES know they can write music that sounds like a barroom brawl, but it turns out they can make you dance too! And while the first single off TANGK (the band's upcoming fifth studio album, due out February 16) was the incredibly poppy, upbeat, and aptly named 'Dancer', today's new single 'Grace' falls somewhere between the two:
The percussion may say 'dance', but the ominous bass says 'keep your head on a swivel because someone might come up behind you to bash you with a barstool'. The tension builds for the entire 4-minute runtime, but the barstool never comes. Like the final moments of the Sopranos, sometimes the fear of unknown danger is enough. And now that I'm thinking about that, I can only imagine how much more badass it would be to replace 'Don't Stop Believin' with this track. Or just about any IDLES track. Hell, any IDLES track laid over any prestige television show would most likely be a 10/10 upgrade.
