Frank Turner? More Like Frank TOURner This Summer

That might be it. That might be the worst joke I've ever made.

But there was a purpose! My stupidity has surely captured your morbid curiosity, so while I have your eyeballs I have to tell you the good news that's just broken this morning: Frank Turner is going on tour this summer.

After having already announced a new album (Undefeated, coming May 3) last month, Frank Turner is loading the Sleeping Souls into several tour busses to bring his particularly-catchy brand of rock music to the masses with the Undefeated Tour. The tour will feature support from Amigo the Devil, Bridge City Sinners and Micah Schnabel & Vanessa Jean Speckman. Tickets and dates can be found here.

Why would you continue to listen to me, who hasn't even heard the new album, when you can hear from the man who wrote the goddamn thing?

“Now I’m surprised to report that as I enter my forties, I’ve returned to being an angry man,” Frank Turner sings on the recent track “No Thank You For The Music.” And that’s a concise statement as to what to expect from the forthcoming Undefeated.
“There are no clichés about the difficult 10th album, so in some ways, that’s a liberating statement,” he continues. “But at the same time, I have a duty to justify writing and releasing a 10th album. That’s a lot of records for anybody. Also, I’m 42. Which is not a sexy, rock’n’roll age. But all through my career, I’ve been interested in writers like Loudon Wainwright III or The Hold Steady, people who write about adulthood, essentially.”

I'm aware that anyone I write about on this website will have some amount of built in "this is something/someone you should check out". After all, if it wasn't something I thought was awesome, why would I bother writing about it? But even with that said, you really really need to do yourself a favor and listen to his music and get tickets for this tour. You ever have a musician you discover and love all their music right from the beginning? And then you look deeper and find out that they've been putting out music for over 15 years and you feel like a dumbass for not finding them sooner? That's me with Frank Turner, who first popped up on my radar when the Riot Fest 2023 lineup was announced. I was immediately caught up in some of the catchiest, wittiest, head-bangin'ist music I've heard in quite some time.

On one hand, there were like 17 albums of his for me to work my way through on iTunes. On the other, he'd played 30+ shows in Illinois over the last decade plus and I missed all of them but one.

The good news is I certainly won't be making that mistake again. Amigo, the Devil and Bridge City Sinners are also recent Riot Fest alums, and both put on equally fantastic live shows.
